Taste and see that the Lord is good!
O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despair, lust of power, and idle talk.
But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience, and love to Thy servant.
Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own transgressions, and not to judge my brother, for blessed art Thou, unto ages of ages. Amen.
The original Christian Churches were started by the Apostles of Jesus in the Holy Lands, then spread to the West. The Christians of those Churches call themselves Orthodox. This description has two meanings which are closely related.
The first definition is “true teaching.” The Orthodox Church believes that she has maintained and handed down the Christian faith, free from error and distortion made by human beings and their institutions over the centuries since the Crucifixion. Our beliefs and customs are those taught to the Apostles directly by Jesus before He sent them out to establish His Church.
The second definition is “true praise.” To bless, praise, and glorify God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is a fundamental purpose of the Church.
The Church is universal, including persons of all races and cultures. It is not unusual for titles such as Greek, Russian, and Antiochian to be used in describing Orthodox Churches. Our Church is part of the Orthodox Church in America and welcomes all cultures.
We believe that there is joy in community. We strive to create a supportive and welcoming environment where everyone can come together to worship, learn, and grow in their faith. Whether you are visiting, new to the area or have been a member of our congregation for years, we invite you to join us and experience the joy of community at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church.
