2005
A dedicated group of Orthodox Christians were worshipping at a home chapel outside of Hilo, which had been blessed by the ArchBishop Benjamin of the Diocese of the West.
As word spread, more people attended and pop up tents were added outside of the charming building, which had been built just for the family's use.
2013
Today
An opportunity arose to buy a 100 year old Church, long out of use. It had a 1960's gold shag carpeting and peeling paint. The family that owned it since the 1800's turned down better offers and allowed us to buy it and make it into a Church again. The Diocese approved and for 10 years bore the expense of flying in Priests for our services twice a month, plus gave us a monthly allowance to help with our mortgage. This picture is of our first service in the building in 2013, with Fr. John Schroedel.

In 2023 we were blessed to welcome our own Priest, Fr Benjamin Huggins, and his beautiful wife and family.
We are thriving, having already had weddings, baptisms and much joy in our community.
We remain so thankful to the Diocese of the West of the Orthodox Church in America for supporting us as we built up our community 2300 miles away from them out in the middle of the Pacific!
